Important parts of Cats

Cats are very incredible.  To be this incredible they need lots of important body parts.  Here are just a few of these body parts and what they do.

The Hip Joint  help a cat jump easily.

Ligaments and Tendons in the PawsThe ligaments keep the claws retracted ( or at rest ) in the paw.   This is helpful because it makes it so the claws don't brake when accidentally hit on something. When the claws are needed, the tendons make the claws  come out.  Cats need there claws to get food and defend themselves.

The Tail helps a cat keep its balance.  The tail is the reason you may see a cat on the top of a fence, because it can keep its balance.  The tail also helps a cat spin around in mid-air so it lands on its feet.  That's why you hear the saying "Cats always land on their feet."

The Teeth help a cat grasp on to, cutting, and shredding food.  Teeth also help cats defend themselves.

The Tongue has rough sort of "bumps".  These bumps are called papillae.  The papillae make a cats tongue rough.  When the tongue is rough, a cat can lick the meat of bones and groom their coats.  The papillae also help a cat drink.

The Iris. A cats eye works mostly the same way as a human eye.  The Iris is made up of contracting and expanding muscles.  When there is low light, a cat's iris expands, letting more light through.  This helps a cat see better at night.  When there is a lot of light, the iris contracts, making it so less light to go through.  This helps a cat because less light can pass through.  To much light can cause serious eye damage.

The Coat protects a cat's skin from the sun and helps keep it warm or cool by insulating the cat.
